The Sports Racing Car Club (SRCC) Sports 2000 Championship held its penultimate race meeting at Oulton Park on Saturday, 19th August 2023. The event was held in conjunction with the U.S. Autoshow, which saw a large number of spectators attend the race.
The weather was mixed throughout the day, with sunshine and showers. The track was dry for the first two qualifying sessions, but rain fell during the third session, which made conditions difficult for the drivers.
Despite the challenging conditions, there was some exciting racing throughout the day. The first race of the day was won by Chris Hodgetts in his Van Diemen RF90. Hodgetts started the race from pole position and led from start to finish.
The second race of the day was won by Simon Green in his Reynard 903. Green took the lead of the race from Hodgetts on lap 12 and held on to win by just 0.042 seconds.
The third race of the day was won by Hodgetts again. Hodgetts started the race from pole position and led from start to finish.
The SRCC Sports 2000 Championship will now conclude at Donington Park on the 16th and 17th of September 2023.
Race Report
The first race of the day saw Chris Hodgetts take pole position in qualifying, ahead of Simon Green and Phil Palmer. Hodgetts made a good start and led from the front for the majority of the race. However, Green closed in on Hodgetts in the closing stages of the race and almost caught him. In the end, Hodgetts held on to win by just 0.042 seconds.
The second race of the day was a more processional affair, with Hodgetts leading from start to finish. Green finished second, ahead of Palmer.
The third race of the day was the most exciting race of the day. Hodgetts took an early lead, but he was soon overtaken by Green. The two drivers then engaged in a close battle for the lead, which went down to the wire. In the end, Hodgetts held on to win by just 0.012 seconds.
